footstool is a strong example of Swedish mid-century design from around 1950, with a distinctly sculptural and handcrafted feel. It appears to be made from solid pine, a material widely used in Sweden at the time, and the wood’s natural character is left fully visible—knots, grain patterns, and warm tones all contribute to its aesthetic rather than being concealed.

The form is compact and block-like, with softly rounded edges that give it a smooth, almost organic presence. The top surface looks gently shaped for comfort, subtly curved rather than flat, which adds to its tactile quality. Instead of conventional legs, it sits on two low, separate supports, creating a grounded stance and reinforcing its solid, architectural appearance.

Overall, the stool balances simplicity with a bold, almost primitive sculptural quality. It reflects the Scandinavian modern ethos of the period—functional, honest in its materials, and quietly expressive—while also leaning toward a more rustic, cabin-style interpretation of Swedish furniture design. This work can be related to the "Sport Möbler" movement initiated by Axel Einar Hjorth.
