About the designer : Pierre Chapo (1927–1987) was a French furniture designer and cabinetmaker known for his exceptionally crafted solid-wood furniture. His work is often compared to figures like Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé, but with a warmer, more organic sensibility. He was renowned for his meticulous craftsmanship, especially his use of solid woods—primarily elm, but also oak and teak. He resisted veneers, preferring natural beauty and durability. Chapo’s work features complex joints such as dovetails and tenons, often left visible to emphasize structural honesty.
