About the designer : Yngve Ekström (1913–1988) was a Swedish furniture designer, architect, and woodworker best known as one of the key figures of mid-century Scandinavian design. He co-founded the furniture company Swedese in 1945, where he developed a style characterized by clean lines, light proportions, and an elegant honesty in materials, especially wood. Ekström believed that good furniture should be both functional and beautiful, and he paid great attention to how pieces felt to use, not only how they looked. Alongside contemporaries such as Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen, he helped define the warm, human-centered aesthetic that has come to represent Scandinavian modernism. Despite his international influence, Ekström remained deeply tied to traditional Swedish craftsmanship, and his work continues to be celebrated for its timeless simplicity and thoughtful construction.
