They met in the early 1950s, studied at French art schools (Jacques at the Beaux-Arts in Clermont-Ferrand, Michelle first at Beaux-Arts de Bourges), and decided in the mid-1950s to work together as potters, marrying and establishing a studio at the Château de Chazeron near Clermont-Ferrand. Their work spans a range of functional and decorative objects, from vases, bowls and pitchers to more ambitious pieces like tables with enameled lava tops and sculptural lamps. Unlike many of their contemporaries who embraced bright, vivid colors, Les 2 Potiers developed a distinctive aesthetic characterized by more muted, earthy tones and experimental glaze techniques, including layered and rubbed enamels that reveal subtle underlying textures and shades. This approach set them apart in the postwar French ceramics scene and contributed to a body of work that is both tactile and visually rich.

https://www.wellfinnished.com/products/ceramic-pot-by-les-2-potiers-michelle-jacques-serre-1956-1970-circa-1960-lave-emaillee
